I'm having fun with FF.net's newly introduced "Reader Traffic" widget. It's a little cumbersome yet (figuring out who's reading what involves a lot of back-and-forth with the drop-down menu), but the "Breakdown by Visitor Country" chart is just plain cool, in a "Dude -- people all over the freakin' world are reading my 'fic!" way. Last month, I had hits from Malaysia, Thailand and Bulgaria; only five days into August, and I've already seen traffic from Finland, Mexico, Singapore and Guam. Mind you, that's a drop in the bucket compared to the readers hailing from the US and UK, but still -- people all over the freakin' world are reading my 'fic! Logically, I knew this must be happening, but it's a different experience laid out in blue and orange.

I love your FMA fic. I wish you would write more Ed in Munich stuff. It's just lurvely.

I actually do have an idea for another Ed-in-Munich story (possibly from Alfons's POV, because it covers some of the same characterological ground as "Ubi Sunt Gaudia") as well as an Ed-in-Paris story from Hohenheim's perspective. I'm just waiting on the time and inspiration. I really want to finish up "The Weight of the Paper" and "Errands of the Eye" first (though I'll probably get sucked into the EdWinry Fire and Ice Challenge again. Too many ideas; too little time ...).

Poor dragons. I did click, but it doesn't seem to have done much good. Sigh.

What widget? Where widget? I wanna see who's reading my fic, too!

*laugh*

You'll probably have more readers from more different places than me, too, being involved in more fandoms -- and, let's face it, more more-popular fandoms -- than I. (I'm amazed at the jump in traffic I got from posting a drabble in the Avatar category, while the 3000+ word short story for Tsubasa doesn't even seem to have attracted the attention of the die-hards yet. As someone once remarked, "Fascinating.")

Someone translated one of my BtVS fics into another language...German? I can't remember now. Maybe it was Portuguese? *headshake* Yeah, BtVS got me out there again, after nearly twenty years away from fanfic. Haven't stopped writing the goofy stuff since.

You have your own fan-translators? Wow. So far I don't even have plagiarists (that I know of).

Is it bad that I don't even remember which story was translated?

No, it shows a becoming humility. Or early-onset Alzheimer's. Either way, not your fault.

I have this wild idea that I should try drabbling in German, just to see what the difference is between the geographical spread of readership in both language groups. Sociological experiment ho!

WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?

Readers with excellent taste in 'fic. [preens]

(Though I feel bad for anyone who tried to read my drabble sequence "Revolt of the Flesh" while FF.net had its formatting stripped. It does not work as one long connected piece of prose. Why do they even bother to give you an HTML line break if they don't let you keep it? I'm going back to my trusty em-dashes. They haven't been deleted yet.)

Possible, but English is one of Guam's two official languages. There's likely more than one Anglophone FMA/Avatar fan there ...

Heh - I almost said something self depreciating until I remembered that would insult you too and decided I should quit while I'm ahead...

Damnit, I'm doing that thing where I'm ignorent again. Although to be fair, Guam was never exactly covered in my AP history classes...

I had to look it up, myself, though I remembered that it's an American possession. My first thought was that there have to be fans in the U.S. military, right? The second-official-language thing widens the scope further.
