We're about to open our newly renovated special collections department here at the library, but our marketing strategies are considerably less inventive than those of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam:
It's not like we don't have the resources -- what we lack is the VISION. :-)

Though someone did recently install a small black button marked (in the appropriate font) "RED ALERT" in the staff elevator. I'm waiting to see how long it takes for someone official to notice and remove it ...

ETA: And if you liked that, the same guys also have a Vivaldi meets the Bourne soundtrack one (as well as a video wherein they play a Charlie Brown medley at a senior center, which is just darling).

Sniggled from Bryan Konietzko's Tumblr, the Olympic performance of the Brazilian synchronized waterbending swimming team:
Okay, Nickelodeon, can we please have an ATLA soundtrack album NOW?

Sniggled from Diane Duane's Tumblr:
I love how the foxes are all "PLAYPLAYPLAYPL--whoa, what's up with the ground?" and the one fox is like, "Dude, it bounces! THIS IS AWESOME!" and the other is like, "Yeah, whatever, c'mon, let's play some more" and the first one is all "Uh-huh, right, as soon as I figure out how this works" and the second one flounces off muttering, "Dude, you're, like, SUCH A NERD."

(And the first fox totally came back that night to bounce again. You know he did.)

This is the most fantastic performance of a Beethoven piece I have ever seen:

Nick.com has a teaser moment from the upcoming Legend of Korra episode available, and it's a winner:

A kidnapping plot already? I love kidnapping plots ... and it's also encouraging to see the main antagonists worming their way into the protagonists' lives so early (though, if I had to guess, I'd suspect Bolin of being in the wrong place at the wrong time here and not necessarily the focus of the original scheme). Must make cake this evening for Korra Day tomorrow!

ETA: I was right. Wrong place, wrong time ... fortunately, no one messes with Mako's little brother.

ETA: On a related note, the best children's book about playing in the snow EVER is still in print. Given proper encouragement, I will recite swathes of it from memory ... ("The hill is long. The hill is steep ... [pause to take in the full effect of the illustration of the dog lying on the sled the trudging children are pulling up said hill] We think our dog has gone to sleep.")

I was at the Salt Lake Olympic Winter Games back in 2002 when Alexei Yagudin won his gold medal, but I had already left by the time they had the exhibitions, so I missed the big reveal of his secret identity:

Color me retro, but I always enjoyed Peter, Paul and Mary. They were one of the only name bands I ever saw in concert as a teenager (with friends, even! not my parents!). I hope to see Ms. Travers after the eschaton and sing along with her in person again.

It's a serious issue they raise. Anybody else remember the movie they made out of the Young Einstein trailer back in the eighties? Such a disappointment ...

Now, this is hysterically funny. You don't have to have worked a help desk or studied the scroll-to-book transition to agree with me, either.

[livejournal.com profile] dduane noticed this back before Christmas and it's one of the funniest parodies I've ever seen. You don't have to know about Irn Bru to appreciate it, but it may help to have grown up hearing "Walking in the Air" from The Snowman every now and then:Video behind the cut ...  )Guaranteed to raise a chuckle or your money back.

Back when I attended Otakon, I was annoyed to have missed most of ADV's showing of the first episode of Pumpkin Scissors (especially since I had forced myself to sit through the entire first episode of Air, ack ptooie!). Well, as part of the marketing rollout for the R1 DVD release, the good folk of IGN are streaming that first episode (dubbed), as you may see below the cut. Read more... )
