My team made the playoffs this year. Go team! I put myself into the postseason ticket lottery, as I always do, and came up empty the first two rounds (last year I qualified for LCS tickets, but my team crashed and burned in their divisional series). Still, I consoled myself, the World Series lottery still remains and there's at least an outside chance the team might make it that far (if they can patch the leaks in their starting rotation, anyway). But then this morning I received word that I had won the right to a ticket or three to Game 5 of the divisional series, should it be held. So I bought one ticket, down at 100 level on the third base side, just past the end of the infield. Sweet. The only problem is that my team will have to lose two games in order for me to take advantage of this windfall, and I can't root for that ... can I? (No. Let's take 'em in three and move on. I'll hold out for a seat at the World Series.)

In other news, my spam is getting more surreal by the day.
Are you disappointed in finding your perfect soul mate?
Actually, I think I'd be pretty pleased if I found my perfect soul mate, unless he turned out to be a serial killer in disguise. That would be a disappointment.

Then welcome to the world where you can find a true Russian princess that will be pretty, loving and understanding.
Wait a minute -- I've seen this movie before! It had a great soundtrack and some very nice voice acting, but I could have done without the talking bat. (And it's "who will be pretty, etc." not "that" -- "who" for people, "that" for non-people. Though I suppose a Russian princess might be persona non grata in the new Russia. Maybe that's why she's e-mailing grammarians in the States.)

Visit [address redacted] and hurry to buy a ticket to Russia.
No, thanks -- I just bought a ticket to the playoffs.

Sorry if this message is not addressed to you.
In which case, how did it get into my inbox? Is this some kind of homage to Rene Magritte? That movie you reminded me of had a French connection, too, if I recall correctly. Perhaps we could get together and watch it sometime -- my library has a copy of it in the video collection. Afterward, if you're interested, I could introduce you to my colleagues. We're always looking for people with foreign language expertise; it's a union shop and the benefits are quite nice. I'd take a steady job over a date with a potential serial killer any day of the week, myself. Let me know ...
Boy, do I need a vacation. Providence, here I come.
