Sniggled from [livejournal.com profile] canarynoir -- at last, a muse I can use!

My muse is...
Calliope

Calliope is the patron goddess of epic poetry. She is often depicted holding a writing tablet and wearing a golden crown, for she is the oldest of the muses and their leader. Her name means "The Fair Voiced," but Calliope inspires eloquence in writing. The next time you feel compelled to write (especially something "big"), call upon Calliope for inspiration and perhaps you'll pen your greatest work yet.

Who is your muse?

Mind you, it's a little intimidating. I'm not sure I'm ready to write the twenty-first century's Odyssey or Aeneid yet. Heck, I'm not even sure I'm ready to write Homer's Daughter, which seems more in my vein of creative endeavor ...

I got Calliope too, though I think I'm going to dub the Divergence muse Clio or Melpomene.

Oh, no, not Melpomene, no, no, no ... ;-)

What I need right now is the patronage of the mother of all muses, Mnemosyne, because I am having a dickens of a time remembering that it's きたない, not きてない, and the difference between ぎんこう(bank), きんじょ(neighborhood) and じんこう(population, which has to be written 人口 because we know all the kanji for it). I hate examinations. [wail]I want to have time to write again![/wail]

Since everything I write seems to end up being several times longer than I originally anticipated it being, I'm wondering if Calliope isn't the right muse for me as well. I seem to be biologically incapable of writing anything shorter than six pages, and most end up being a lot longer than that. Maybe I need a muse that is a ruthless editor!

Huh. I answered reading all over the place. I guess any academic interest other than history or astronomy points you at Calliope.
