Personal Note: Oh, no, not again!
Jun. 18th, 2007 08:35 pmBeing, as I am, thoroughly blocked on the second part of "The Weight of the Paper", I decided to take part in the Ed/Winry "Fire and Ice" Challenge on the theory that a) writing to a random prompt might bump me out of the authorial funk; and b) I need more practice writing romance. Well, the prompts have not been assigned yet, but I'm already being dogged by a sketch set slightly ahead of the current arc in the mangaverse, in which Ed and Winry ... well, we'll see, won't we? Usefully, it's from Ed's POV (everything else even remotely Ed/Win that I've attempted has been from Winry's, so huzzah for stretching the imagination). Un-usefully, it's trying to write itself out in full, which is exactly what happened to "Light the Traveler Home", my 'fic for last year's Ed/Win Christmas challenge, which story ended up repudiating its prompt completely. (And it was a good prompt, too. Sigh.) So I am trying to walk the delicate line of making notes that might be useful about dialogue and arc of characterization without committing myself to any particular setting, plot or resolution. As Calvin might say, "Oog." In a way, though, it helps to be out ahead of the story-so-far (through chapter 72), because I can divert my brain by working out how the outcome of current plot issues might give rise to a moment in which Ed can ... well, we'll see, won't we? :-)

Date: 2007-06-26 11:24 am (UTC)Hmph. You joined in.
(*folds arms*) And aside from throwing me into some sort of surgery, you haven't done anything...
Let me point out that a) that was surgery, not some weird scene of psychosexual torture; b) I arranged to have Al *and* Winry there when you came out; and c) I've also sent you to the Riviera and let you gamble, fed you a dam' good New Year's dinner, and let you take Winry to a wedding in a sexy red dress.
(*perks*)...I get a nice moment with Winry? - Ed
Which I am busting my butt to make work. Al and I have worked out a plausible reason for him to be elsewhere; the weather is cooperating; and Winry's all ready for her close-up. All you need to do is forget the cameras are rolling and act natural.

Date: 2007-06-26 11:30 am (UTC)Yeah, well...I LIVE here. (Hates the weakness in that statement but what can you do.)
...fed you a dam' good New Year's dinner....
That was a good New Year's dinner. (nods - frowns in realization) Hey, wait a minute, ELD, psychosexual torture? (weg) Think she's talking about any story of yours in particular?
Al and I have worked out a plausible reason for him to be elsewhere; the weather is cooperating; and Winry's all ready for her close-up.
Yeah? Well...I guess I'd better get ready, then. (cheeky grin)
All you need to do is forget the cameras are rolling and act natural.
...You mean, yell, scream, fuss and fidget? - Winry (long-suffering eyebrow raise)

Date: 2007-06-26 11:49 am (UTC)Don't think you can wriggle out of this by starting an argument between us, young man. The phrase "prisonfic" ought to bring back a few memories, too -- also the names
Yeah? Well...I guess I'd better get ready, then. (cheeky grin)
Thanks. On set at 9, please. We'll be taking it from Winry's "No" -- I have some new blocking for you, but the lines are all the same.
"All you need to do is forget the cameras are rolling and act natural."

I was hoping for overly-protective-mode and [CROGGLE!], actually. (That's why your script has one more page than his.) Just try to remember that you really do love this person, despite his quirks, and everything should be fine. There's more than one reason everyone washed up during the backstory. :-)

We'll be taking it from Winry's "No"
NO? Oh, hell, this isn't....
Just try to remember that you really do love this person, despite his quirks, and everything should be fine.
Well...all right. I can do that. If he doesn't do anything too stupid.

Not too stupid, certainly. He just needs to have a few assumptions recalibrated. I'm sure you're up to the job. [grins]

He just needs to have a few assumptions recalibrated.
That sounds somewhat familiar.
