A/N: I posted this piece back in January and quickly realized that it was a draft short of being completely finished (a realization aided by the helpful critique of lyricnonsense, orion117 and mai_kaihua). So here it is again, substantially revised with respect to prose, though the plot remains the same. (Den the Farting Dog remains as well, despite some offline groaning.) Concrit still welcomed: is it better now? I think so, but I'm just the author ... (The original version is available here.)
Dedication: Still for light_rises, who codified the Third Commandment of FMA Romance: "Thou shalt not write long and involved Ed/Win fics which give the impression that Al (a) is unimportant or (b) never existed."
