Two straight nights of low-level dream unpleasantness and I suppose I must admit to being stressed. Two nights ago I was ordering dinner at a noodle café with [livejournal.com profile] kanja177: you got your bowl of plain noodles for $5, but could add toppings for extra $$. I chose "crabsies," which turned out not to be a topping but a rather expensive appetizer, some kind of crab pancake. I was trying to take back that part of my order when [livejournal.com profile] kanja177 suggested that we could share it (which even in the dream I knew was odd, since she's a vegetarian, but my brain decided that fish must not count as meat after all, because that's the way it works on Fridays in Lent ...). We'd both gotten glasses of water and shifted over to the part of the counter where you wait for your food when two guys shoved in front of us, pushing our water out of reach. I made some irritated and mildly over-the-top comment about them as I corralled our glasses, whereupon the guys began to harass me for rudeness. I finally grabbed the glasses, told them I was having a bad week and we should call it even. I woke up annoyed with myself.

Then last night I had been called on to read in church and could not find the correct passage in the lectionary, no matter how frantically I paged through it. Everyone was waaaaiting, of course. I finally dragged a computer-ept friend -- no points for guessing which one, [livejournal.com profile] kanja177! -- over to a terminal in the room across from the chapel to print out what I needed from an online site, whereupon he began arguing with me over what day it was. It turned out, of course, that I'd been looking for the wrong passage all along. Nnngh.

I'm going to have to be careful: in the past, my response to this sort of grinding minor angst is to buy stories into which I can escape, without considering my budget. I did order the first disk of Oofuri: Natsu no Taikai Hen and the sixth volume of Pumpkin Scissors from Japan the other day, but resolved immediately afterward that that was it. I'll just have to ILL in some Georgette Heyer and Jim Butcher in the meanwhile ...

This is the kind of stress that saps my will to write, unfortunately. Bleah.

Must persevere -- I'll have Labor Day off, so ...

Drabbles ahoy, I guess. They're brief and cute and non-threatening -- maybe I'll try one of those 50-whatever challenge things.

But how will you get That Story done writing drabbles?

Thanks. Nothing compared to the stressors being experienced by sundry persons of my acquaintance, but still pretty darn annoying. My stomach is churning as I type -- just got off the phone with someone reporting from her trench on our common stress front. I think I'm going to listen to Ouran High School Host Club for the rest of my workday.

I've been rereading The Hunger Games and Catching Fire while waiting for my copy of Mockingjay to arrive. Amazon was really late shipping it and now it's being held hostage by the post office because it won't fit into my mailbox or something.

the postal idiots delievered my diabetic supplies 4 miles away to some stranger (or it might be UPS, if i ever see this package ....)

I need to read catching fire. I really thought hunger games was rather blah so i've been putting it off

The whole series strikes me as oddly retro, a throwback to the totalitarian dystopian futures of my youth that always seemed to be putting children through impossible tests. I wonder if the author grew up reading the same books I did.

There is no excuse for misdelivering medical supplies. None whatsoever.

that's entirely possibl. I think part of my problem is I don't really like dystopias

No there isn't

Oh dear. My dreaming mind goes for the oddball, too, under stress -- though it usually skips the barfights and (quite reliably) subs in "it's the big concert and I haven't been to a single rehearsal and I've never seen this solo before [and possibly the oboe is missing/broken/irreconcilably upside down]" for embarrassing hijinks before the congregation.

I hear you, budgetarily. I'm with you for seeking out new discounts and new fun-without-spending, because High Austerity Budget hits my household with force starting tomorrow. Oof.

(We could take some books and a picnic to that little park with the stream and the cabin again ...)
