Via Ansible:
Diana Wynne Jones, after much consultation with her husband and specialists, has decided to abandon chemotherapy (which is serving only to make her feel very ill indeed) and resign herself to whatever may follow. Her senior oncologist fears she has 'months rather than years', but we all hope that – as once or twice before – Diana can still surprise the medical profession. May the good luck return.
Oh, dear ...

Also of note from the same issue: Martin Gardner, he of The Annotated Alice, The Annotated Wizard of Oz, and other wonderful things, passed on May 22. Now I'm really depressed.

Great admiration for her for being able to make that decision - it's not an easy one to accept, but hopefully she can find peace before she passes. The language about her senior oncologist worries me "fears she has 'months instead of year'" - I hope that's the doctor being frank with her and not trying to encourage her to take any life prolonging measures, as doctors are so often pressured to do today.

I hope she gets good palliative care, if it becomes necessary. And I think I must finally write that fan letter I've been meaning to send for the past thirty years. Better late than never.

I took your [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti 'fic with me to read on vacation and then never read it, despite being stuck on the tarmac and in holding patterns and all sorts. Mea culpa! I'll get on it as soon as I'm over this [grumble] jet lag ...

Oh god, do not even worry about it the tiniest little bit, take your time, I do not expect anything. You don't have to say anything! I'm just happy you saw it! (In case you can't tell, I still feel really bad about how long it took me to finish it...)

If you're still in the mood for fic, want to help me expand my vocabulary? (http://artemisrae.livejournal.com/126299.html)
