FF.net has gone and stripped the rules out of half of my stories AGAIN, making utter hash of at least one of them (I defy anyone to make sense of "Me and My Shadow" without breaks between the drabbles). Now I know why the Hulk smashes things. I shall spend my lunch today restoring the rules that set off dedications and author's notes, but any that functioned as scene-breaks are being replaced by oOo -- and be hanged to people who read that as ghostly wailing.

This is such an annoying thing to discover right after an influx of new readership ... I feel like posting an apology on my profile page, except that isn't what they're reading.

It happened to you too???

I second you on the HULK SMASH thing. I had asterisks between scene breaks. Charming little spaceholders, stylistically they looked so nice. GONE. Except when I export the fics to edit them back in, when they suddenly reappear. I am SO DISPLEASED.

I used to use asterisks -- bzap! Gone. Rows of n-dashes -- fwip! Gone. (I never had them reappear, though now I think of it I never tried re-exporting, just reuploading. Hmm. I'm hoping the ghost-wails will work; they weren't stripped in this last round, anyway. It is highly annoying to discover that one's work has been compromised by mechanical forces. Suddenly I have a lot more sympathy for all those rather prissy errata notices in early printed books that blame the ham-handed (or lazy or overtired) printer for errors in the text ...
