In an utterly uncharacteristic access of common sense, my employing institution will be closed tomorrow in recognition of the foot of snow predicted to fall overnight. I suspect someone of replacing the relevant administrators with pod people.

A friend reported the first flakes in this area at about 7:30 p.m. It's coming down thick and fast now. Viva El NiƱo!

One of my employing institutions has closed in the face of a foot of snow tomorrow... But that's not the one I work at on wednesdays. I have a history of abysmal snow day luck.

We haven't had a snow day in years. For a good part of that we had an EVP who lived nearby and seemed to figure that if he could get to work, so could everyone else. Not true, sir. Not true.

Isn't sanity from the higher ups...amazingly delightful when it happens?

I'm in Phoenix Arizona this week, and I am LOVING it. I'm trying not to be too smug though, on account of I'm supposed to housesit Saturday once I'm home and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it'll be plowed enough for me to get food and get there.

It's 60 degrees. I'm wearing a trench coat!

One of my friends was returning from California over the weekend when the first storm hit and ended up spending an unscheduled day in Phoenix. Looks like its THE place to be this winter. :-)

Looks like it started snowing again here. I was glad they decided to call everything off last night; we had a lull in the precip during the morning commute, which in days of yore would have meant that everyone was expected to come in and then find their way home as best they could when the back end of the storm began closing roads and shutting down public transit. Thank goodness this is the second storm of the sequence (a third may be in the offing, according to a local meteorologist taking a look at the long-range models. I like it. :-)

Well I'm here on business, not pleasure, sadly. I haven't been outside except to make phone calls (next to the pool, woe). The unfortunate part is that I'm not part of the presentations, nor am I the target audience for presentations. I'm mostly here to meet with people that I've only spoken to in email, being a newish member of the team. The fortunate part of THAT is that I've spent the majority of my time on my laptop keeping caught up on homework. And fanfic. Wrote 600 words of [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti fic the other day! Although now I'm sort of doing that "What the heck was I thinking?!" that I do when I write fic. We'll have to see if it sticks. And Big Bang revisions, ngh.

You have my deep, profound, unremitting sympathy. [FX phhhhhtttththhpppt]

I've been trying to write, myself, but none of the in-progress projects want to get any forwarder. No, instead, I've got a brand new idea to sketch notes for ... but at least it's short.
