From animenewsnetwork.com's coverage of the New York Anime Festival (to which I would've gone, if I hadn't bought the car, argh) comes the following news regarding Funimation's dub of FMA:B:
Funimation has also announced the English dubbing cast for the ongoing Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood television series version of Hiromu Arakawa's fantasy adventure manga. Bryan Massey will play Isaac, J. Michael Tatum will play Scar, and Maxey Whitehead will play Alfonse Elric. The other characters will have the same voice cast from the earlier 2003-2004 Fullmetal Alchemist television adaptation. Alfonse Elric's former voice actor, Aaron Dismuke, will have a "big role" later on. Caitlin Glass and Mike McFarland are the ADR directors for the English dub.
My bet's on Dismuke returning as Ling, heh. Maxey Whitehead did a reasonable turn as the young Antonio in Romeo x Juliet, so no worries there. Must get around to putting the dub of the FMA OVAs in the player to check out Tatum's Scar, since I quite enjoyed Dameon Clarke's take. The original FMA dub is one of my favorites, so I'm pleased by the return of the rest of the cast (FMA, along with Princess Nine, Full Metal Panic and sequels, Death Note, Spirited Away and Porco Rosso, is one of the few anime I'm as likely to listen to in English as in Japanese). If Glass and McFarland can pull performances of similar quality out of their VAs this time around, they'll have another winner on their hands. (Can't hardly wait for the scene in the alley ... oh, I'm so preordered on this one ... :-)

yeah Ling would be my guess too for Dismuke. I'm a little disappointed actually. While i loved the male VA's I hated Riza and Winry

De gustibus ... -- it's been a few years; maybe Glass and Clinkenbeard will bring something new to their parts. Both manga-Winry and manga-Riza have more fully-developed roles and backstories than their round one anime counterparts, after all.

there is that. It was actually the sound of their voices that bothered me along with acting skills. Winry was l ike fingernails on a chalkboard

Yes. Especially that squeal, which, from what I gathered, was how Ms. Glass got hired in the first place.

Huh. Never struck me much, one way or the other, but I agree that listening to chalkboard/fingernails is no fun at all. One hopes for the best for all of us. :-)

I agree with COM...and Mr. Dismuke as Ling...hmmm.

Hmmm indeed -- but it's the only "major role" I can think of in the mid-/late-stage of the series (me and everyone else on the Internet!) that would fit his age/voice range -- I mean, theoretically it could be Miles, but he's a little young for that.

...*cough* Unless he's going to voice Olivia...*cough*

Er, well, I guess every actor likes to, um, stretch him/herself.

I'm 99% sure he'd be Ling. Aaron was at my local con a few weeks ago, and someone asked him about the FMA:B dub--he mentioned that he'd really like to be Ling. Either he already knew but couldn't give it away, or he was currently in the running for the part but wasn't sure if he'd get it, would be my guess.

Sounds like. I think he'll have fun with Ling, if he gets it -- and it'll mean a totally different dynamic working with Vic Mignogna, which could be quite interesting to hear.

He's surprisingly funny IRL, so I can see him being able to pull it off. (Although in my head, when I tried to think of a voice for Ling in the past, it was Chris Patton...but I think that's because of the Greed connection.) I hadn't thought of how he'd still be interacting with Vic! It'll be interesting to see how they bounce off each other. (Of course...they'll record separately, but still.)

If Patton weren't already doing Greed (which is one of my favorite roles of his), I think he'd be a strong choice for Ling. I'd actually been imagining Crispin Freeman in the role myself, in one of those if-you-could-cast-anyone games, given that he's based elsewhere. He could definitely do the switch from goofy to serious to sinister you need come Ling's metamorphosis into Greed.

Oooooh, Crispin Freeman. *_* His voice would maybe be a little bit too deep, but otherwise....oooooh. He'd definitely be able to handle the different sides of Ling well.

I was thinking of something like the timber he gives Kyon in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
