I know! All I ever found when I went treasure-hunting were rocks. Mind you, they were very pretty rocks once I'd split them open (with a hammer and no eye-protection whatsoever. Sometimes I wonder how I survived childhood with only one broken arm.).

Well, hey -- here's your chance to ditch biochemistry and go back to school for a degree in archaeology. About the time you've finished it and are digging stuff up in earnest in the Med, the karma-meter will have reset and you'll be unearthing Sappho by the scroll-load ...

Oddly enough, until I was twelve or so, that PhD in archaeology was the actual plan. ;)

Until I hit high school and was talked out of it, librarianship was the plan. Never discount the utility of a grammar school life-plan.
