Personal Note: Another honor

nebroadweYet another grace note of honor in the symphony of my life (all right, it frequently sounds like a symphony by Charles Ives or Arnold Schoenberg, but work with me here ... ) --

mikkeneko's In Living Memory -- goshwow! Ivory Gate was the first FMA fanfic I tried to write with any seriousness (the five-finger exercise from the POV of an original character doesn't count -- it never got beyond the first page and wouldn't have worked. Hmm. Every time I say something like that, I end up writing the piece anyway ... ). I presume IG's advantage lay in its being written inside the FMAverse, while In Living Memory is a post-series AU. It's always pleasing to find that one's own work can stand with other good work. 'Scuse me while I bask for a minute and then get back to writing "Winry and Paninya go to the movies" -- or, rather, to watching Rudolf Valentino in his first screen role, a bit part in a women's picture. Research reveals such interesting things about the past. (F'r'instance, when was the last time you saw cocaine use jauntily presented in a film for general audiences?)
UPDATE: A note from one of the judges, in which s/he states: "[T]he thing the judges remarked most upon was the attention to detail and setting in Ivory Gate. The idea for In Living Memory was lauded as well, but it was your style of prose that consistently gave Ivory Gate the points! I'd love to have some more of your fic for the RPGamer library, since even the judges who weren't ver[y] big into the FMA fandom remarked on how interesting a read Ivory Gate was. (PS, loved your other fic 'Tik Tok.' I love seeing fics with foreign languages other than fangirl Japanese)."
Now, that's praise: when you manage to interest people who weren't already interested. Whee!
