Missed the deadline for the "Fire and Ice" challenge, confound it. The story's all laid out, but I've only managed to convert under half my handwritten draft/notes into typescript at this point. Bah, humbug. I'm pretty jazzed about this one, too: it's letting me do some things I'm pretty good at and forcing me to do others at which I could stand to improve. But I was late getting the prompt and then my computer flaked and this last weekend was devoured by a family visit (in terms of writing; in terms of hanging out with family, it blossomed like a petunia). So I'll just post it to Höllenbeck as usual when it's finished -- though I really, really, really wanted to see how it would stack up in competition. It's not my usual EdWin.

I'm sorry you didn't get done prior to the deadline. *pouts* Will still be looking forward to the story when you post it.

Me, too. [thinks about that] No, actually, I'm peeved. Stupid computer, eating my files, growl, mutter, grump. Though it doesn't help that the story's a bit tl;dr -- it has both a Winry-POV bit and an Ed-POV bit, each of which is short-story-length in itself. Then there's the bit where Things Actually Happen (where I'm bogged down right now, augh) and the bit after that that ties it all up in a neat package (I hope). Oh, well. At least now I don't have to rush through the beauty-edits ... and I can look forward to reading everybody else's entries. [looks forward]

There is always that.

I may start putting them up now, since I'm home sick....

With a handy dandy list (http://community.livejournal.com/fireandice2008/5943.html) and everything except a ballot.

Your efficiency is a shining beacon of an example to us all. See how she rises from her sickbed, clawing her way to the keyboard to post ... :-)

Ohhhhh *is sad* I just binged on a bunch of your fic again too, and I was looking forward to something new.

It'll be up soonish (another week or so, if I don't get zapped by life. Again.). It's a longish piece -- if my handwriting-to-typescript calculations are correct, it's going to be in the neighborhood of seven thousand words. It's also forced me to figure out a lot of the backstory I need for, of all things, that Al-in-Xing novel I keep mulling over but haven't started. Hmmm ... but no, I need to finish "The Weight of the Paper" and "Winry and Paninya go to the movies" first ...

Angst is okay, too: "Her hands trembled as they hovered above the keyboard, as if reluctant to touch it. With a sob, she slammed her fingers into the typepads. ASDFJKL;, read the screen, and then kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk ... on and on into infinity ..."

Yeah...pretty much. Add calling Nurse Sister at work and crying at her (literally), and you've got the day.

I'm glad you're still getting the fic out of it - the other fic that was a considering for the contest is totally going bust once I know I don't have to meet the deadline anymore. And if it kind of spurs you towards a bigger project, well I can't complain about that. (I've found that tooling around in my Gauntlet!verse tends to point me towards my Evil Aang Au Fic of Doom, so I know what you're talking about there...)

but no, I need to finish "The Weight of the Paper" and "Winry and Paninya go to the movies" first ...

Ha. As soon as I finish "That Night Hohenheim and Pinako Met" or "That Time Anime Havoc Stumbled into Rush Valley" or even that set of FMA/Discworld crossover drabbles that have been sitting on my harddrive for... months.

Hmm. I suppose that, too, is a legitimate approach, but I've always been more of a "Kick him while he's down" woman, myself.
