In honor of [livejournal.com profile] evil_little_dog's natal day, I post this tanka on behalf of Edward Elric:
Stumbling in darkness,
Haunted by whispers until
Light breaks in at last:

Who'd have thought that birthday cake
Could hold so many candles?
What can I say? He's a snarky one, he is.

Many happy returns!

Boys are evil. Throw wrenches at them!

PFft. Ed, you don't even know how OLD I am! *laughs*

This is too funny! Thank you!

[aside] No, Ed, I am not going to pass on that remark. It was rude. No, smiling while you say it doesn't make it any less rude. [/aside] He says he just made an educated guess.

This is too funny! Thank you!

You're welcome! Sto lat!

Edward, remember, teasing the bear means you get swiped by the claws. Think of me as the bear and "Marking Time" as the claws. And comments about "when dinosaurs roamed" will lead you to being unhappy for...about the same period of time. *weg*

[aside] No, come on, Ed, you know she means it. Writers can always think of something worse. Yes, worse than that. Yes, I can, too -- I just don't post them in public. I think we need to sit you down with Princess Tutu to give you a better grasp of the writerly mind ... you keep a civil tongue in your head, young man, or I'll call Mytho over and have him give you a ballet lesson you'll never forget ... [/aside]

Um, he's not mentioning dinosaurs. Better quit while we're ahead, I think.

Oh, and Ed? Remember that other story? No, not that one, the other story? The one that could potentially go from one end of the spectrum to the other? Yeah. That one. Be good and maybe something nice will happen in that one.

He's looking dubious but interested-in-spite-of-himself. You may be on to something. Oops. Should've kept my voice down -- now he's off ranting about not being so lacking in integrity to succumb to bribery and blackmail. Oh, geez, now it's the Danegeld speech. Why, of all the European cultural trivia he might have assimilated, he had to pick up that ... [sticks fingers in ears and hums until the noise stops]

(BTW, I'd certainly like to see the end of the Tea Party story.)

HEE. He probably would be interested in spite of himself...being Ed. Curiosity is a common trait in the Ed-creature.

(I would, too. I KNOW where it needs to go...it's just getting there.)

I may be younger than you both -- but, then again, I may not. Ed certainly is, though.

I hear that. [stares at current piece in queue. It stares back. This may take a while.]

Yes, Ed, we're very well aware of that. (Considers making comment about stamina and youth but decides against it, Ed certainly wouldn't get it.)

Uh huh...and I wish my original fic characters were talking nearly as much as Arakawa's characters are. *glowers*

He'd certainly get, "Age and experience always beat youth and a bad haircut," though. [Tries to act like Ed isn't within earshot.]

I just wish I had the courage to start the original fic that's going around and around inside my head. The length of it intimidates the bejeezus out of me -- and it's basically a collect-the-coupons plot, which are terribly hackneyed unless done really well. (See The Tough Guide to Fantasyland.) My characters might be interesting enough to carry it off, but ... [wibbles indecisively and goes back to fanficcing].

BWAHH.

Not exactly the terminology I was thinking of but yes, yes, that works, as well.

pfft.

I just started working on another original fic....

*glowers at characters*

Really wish I could've gotten my fey story off the hard drive of the computer my ex-husband ganked in the divorce. *Siiiiigh* I miss those characters bunches but they don't talk any more.

Ah, yes. Should've remembered that, except with the "evil" in your userid I keep envisioning you in the basement, surrounded by Tesla coils and bubbling retorts (with a hunchbacked assistant playing the theremin, of course) and just possibly getting ready to shout, "It's alive! It's aliiive!" over a quivering pile of manuscript pages ...
