Nicholas Courtney has passed away and somehow the Earth feels a little less safe. God rest him.

This is the first I've heard of it. I'm now very sad.

I'm waiting for the Times to run his obituary; he seems to have led a very full and interesting life.

I met him at a convention once. He was a delightful man.

I wish I could have done that. He did seem the sort who understood that fandom was a little weird, but basically okay. :-)

He insisted we all call him 'Nick', and performed The Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Show for us, including dancing and yelling at us to dance, too.

He was probably the most approachable actor I met at a convention. :D

I never know what to say to celebrities, beyond "I really enjoy your work." The woman in front of me in the autograph line at the Rick Riordan signing had the obvious question: he'd told a story about giving his son The Lost Hero to read in proof, and the son told him, "This is great, Dad! Now you're my second-favorite author!" The son's favorite author? Suzanne Collins. I was surprised -- didn't think The Hunger Games was that much a crossover piece.

ahahaha...Nick insisted on everyone having a good time. Even if you only got to speak to him in a line for a few seconds, you got the feeling he really appreciated you being there, and that he really liked talking to you. I have no idea what I burbled out to him; I'm afraid I remember speaking with Jon Pertwee and Liz Sladen more, as they were the first Doctor Who actors I'd met - and they thought my name was a bit too...unusual. :D

Michael Praed was also approachable, though also easily distracted. Still, he'd play pool with the fans in the bar....
