Memo to self: buy stock in Kleenex.

I've been viral most of the week, but yesterday and the day before were the worst: nasal, drippy, laryngitic, and debilitating. So much for the writing holiday -- I didn't get much more forward on anything that required serious thought. I also had to drag myself out to the contractor's showroom to pick tile for my bathroom. (Fortunately, I had a friend along to help me avoid the kind of choices you only make when you're mildly febrile, like pink.) I swallowed enough Advil to be able to host a game night yesterday evening: again, it was a good thing we were playing Dominion in teams or I'd have lost even more thoroughly than I did. I'd like to play again when I have my wits about me, though; I think I might actually be able to craft a strategy, something I'm usually pretty bad at doing. And I lysoled the house within an inch of its life, so I have good hope that nobody took home any unpleasant souvenirs.

I still have a few days of vacation left, though, so it's back to work now that I've just got a productive cough and no voice to speak of (or with).

I'm not a gamer born, but I like playing with my friends. Some of the people in the group are pretty serious gamers, but they don't mind slumming with the n00bs. :-) Next time we may try Agricola, which I am reliably informed is the most entertaining game of subsistence agriculture I will ever play. I used to love M.U.L.E. on the old Commodore-64, so I'm intrigued ...

My sympathies. I, too, have been ill for the past month, although I've been spared the insufferable congestion that you have unfortunately succumbed to. :/ Funny how these things always happen at the most inopportune of times.

Hope you recover swiftly. Pneumonia is a great excuse for not commenting on 'fic any day. (I mean "great" in the sense of "eminently suitable" rather than "favorable," of course. Been putting in a lot of hours with the thesaurus lately.)

Something (other than swine flu) must be going around. I think I caught this bugger from the small children among my friends. I like small children, but they are breeding grounds for viruses. And, honestly, I'd almost rather be sick like this on vacation, when I can lie in bed all day swilling orange juice and chicken soup, than not, when I can't justify staying home from work and draaag myself to my desk and infect everyone around me out of sheer perverseness.

No, actually, I'd rather not be sick at all. It's one of the things I'm looking forward to after the eschaton. :-)

I used to like RPGs around the table with my friends when I was younger and was active in the SCA, which, of course, is the granddaddy of LARP, as far as I'm concerned. However, I'm not a gamer, per se.

I almost joined the SCA in college, but it conflicted with practice for the choir I'd also joined, and half the events were held off-campus and I had no car. (And still don't: SCA is one of the hundred things I might try if I ever do get one.)

Not my favorite season, either (though I don't have a seasonally related ailment to bewail, unless you want to count mosquito bites. Not looking forward to this year's bumper crop of mosquitoes, after all that rain ...)

wouldn't that be nice. oddly it seems to be Eureka CA. That area never seems to get above 70 in the summer nor below 40 in the winter. it's so odd

SCA can be incredibly fun...and also very nervewracking. I had a choice my last year in it - stay a kingdom officer; stay in my relationship with my husband; or keep my job. I chose the latter two options.

Well, if I hadn't been in a kingdom office, I probably would've been okay. Even though it was a minor office, having to make sure all the reports and stuff were done - while learning a new job and how to deal with a whole new relationship and status quo on top of all that? Yeahhhh...I had to let something go.
